A Massachusetts Road Trip

A Massachusetts Road Trip

mama and sisters 2

Mama and sisters -- I've made some lists. There's probably more here than we can cover in one short week. What would you love to do? Is there something on this list you'd rather not do? Read, absorb, text me.

(Schedule restrictions: I need to be in the Berkshires on June 26 and July 2)

Mass Road Trip

The Freedom Trail - a 2.5 mile path connecting 16 historically significant landmarks. Takes about 3 hours at a leisurely pace, but we can stop along the way for a nice lunch. We could take a Guided tour or DIY.

Beacon Hill (Charles Street)

Back Bay (Newbury Street)

Harvard Yard - tips and food

Plymouth Plantation & Cape Cod

I'd love to visit the "living museum" called Plymouth Plantation. It's about a 1 hour drive south from Boston.

The Cape Cod beaches of Sandwich are about 20 minutes further down the road. We can eat lobster rolls here.

Martha's Vineyard

Now that I'm typing this out, a day trip to Martha's Vineyard doesn't really seem do-able. We'd need to drive 1 hour from Plimoth, then take a 40 minute ferry to the island. We couldn't bring our car, so we'd need to walk / take the bus to get around the island. The whole point of MV is to slow down and soak up the atmosphere. Figuring out ferry schedules & bus schedules doesn't feel like a relaxing day trip. But anyway, here's a good article on What to do in Martha's Vineyard.

What you're supposed to do in the Berkshires: 1) Drive through the leafy hills in October to see fall foliage. 2) See the Boston Symphony play at Tanglewood in Lenox. We won't be able to do either of these things.

The Berkshire region is also known for their visual and performing arts festivals. I'm still looking for the right thing... for whatever reason I'm not particularly excited about what's playing during the short window of time we're there. One possibility is: The Rose Tattoo staring Marisa Tomei. It's playing in Williamstown, which is about an hour north of where we will (likely) be staying. What do you think?

Norman Rockwell Museum

The Susan B. Anthony Museum

And finally... keep an open mind and don't laugh. What do you think about a R&R Retreat at Kripalu Center? It looks so peaceful and restorative -- could stay overnight (fr0m $169 - 3 meals included + activities) or just get a day pass ($125). So Eat, Pray, Love don't you think?
