February short break...

February short break...

For sun...

Dubai, UAE - I see why everyone goes here. It's certainly the hottest, closest place to go in February... Swim, shop, relax. IF we find a good deal, we might be able to swim with dolphins....

Canary Islands (Lanzarote) - 70-75 degrees. Beach vacation. Not terribly "exciting" but certainly relaxing.  Could be as warm as 80, but worry about it being only 70... still, Londoners lists it as a good place to go in february... but then again, Londoners have a low tolerance for heat.

For culture...

Venice (for carnival) - could be chilly and damp - but visually very interesting, if slightly spooky! The city goes crazy during Carnival (which is when we'd be there)...

Rome: Think NYC but in Italy and with more history. We could add a day trip to Pompeii (2 hours by train). History is the focus of Rome/Pompeii. That, and pasta and pizza.

Florence: Art, architecture, shopping, food. Beautiful, cultural city.

NYC: Freezing cold. But we could schedule: Hamilton and NYC Ballet's Sleeping Beauty. (ABT is on break during the month of Feb.) And dinner with Grandpa?

Have ruled out for now...

Greece - Athens is a must do. But I think it would be better to combine that city with a  trip to the Greek Islands (in a warmer month).

Portugal - Again, a must see! But every place that I've found boasts sea views and beaches -- which are better visited during warmer months... thinking about this for May long weekend break?

Asia / Indian Ocean - I really want to spend more time in Asia. But we need 10 days.

Cuba - ditto
